Candle Care
Candle Care
Caring for a candle properly can enhance its longevity and ensure a clean, safe burn. Here's a guide on how to care for your candles:
- Trim the Wick: Before each use, trim the wick to about ¼ inch (0.6 cm) in length. This prevents the wick from becoming too long and causing uneven burning or excessive smoke.
- Burn Time: When lighting a candle for the first time, allow it to burn until the wax melts across the entire surface. This prevents tunneling and ensures an even burn throughout the candle's life.
- Avoid Drafts: Keep candles away from drafts, as they can cause uneven burning, dripping, or flickering. Drafts can also make the candle burn faster.
- Use a Snuffer: Extinguish candles using a snuffer rather than blowing them out. This helps prevent hot wax from splattering and keeps the wick centered for the next burn.
- Keep the Wax Pool Clean: After extinguishing the flame, ensure the wax pool is clean of debris like wick trimmings or matches. This helps maintain a clean burn for subsequent uses.
- Burn in Intervals: Avoid burning candles for more than 4 hours at a time. Excessive burning can lead to overheating and potentially cause the container to crack.
- Reposition Candles: If you notice a candle burning unevenly, gently reposition it to ensure an even burn. Be cautious while handling lit candles.
- Store Properly: Store candles in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Excessive heat can cause candles to warp or lose fragrance.
- Use Candle Accessories: Consider using candle accessories such as trays or holders to catch drips and protect surfaces from heat damage.
- Discontinue Use at ½ Inch Wax: Stop burning candles when there's approximately ½ inch (1.3 cm) of wax remaining at the bottom of the container. Burning a candle too close to the bottom can overheat the container and pose a safety risk.
By following these simple tips, you can ensure your candles burn cleanly, safely, and efficiently, enhancing your enjoyment of their fragrance and ambiance.
